KOTA BAHARU, May 14 – The Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP) can be regarded as an agency to complement efforts by the state government to help the people in the state, said Kelantan Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
He said among the roles of the JPP was to coordinate federal government programmes, activities and projects in the state to complement the service provided by the Kelantan government for the people.
“JPP has channelled various aid to the poor, orphans, students and families hit by disaster.
“We assist Cuepacs, the Indian Muslim Association, imagine if there is no federal government, where are they going to turn to for help.
“Hence, the Kelantan people should be grateful there is JPP,” he told reporters after presenting allocations for 16 non-governmental organisations at the Kelantan JPP office here today.
The recipients included the Red Crescent Society, Kelab Wisma Persekutuan, Kelantan Darul Naim Media Club (Kemudi) and the Kelantan Chapter of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).
Mustapa, who is also the Kelantan Federal Development Action Council chairman, hit out at certain quarters calling for JPP to be closed.
Closing JPP could increase unemployment in the state, he said, adding that the Kelantan JPP had been accepted by majority of the Kelantan people for the services it provided them.
