9,771 Voters Eligible To Vote In Tanjong Datu By-Election This Saturday

LUNDU, Feb 16 – A total of 9,771 registered voters are eligible to vote in the Tanjong Datu by-election this Saturday.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Mohd Hashim Abdullah in a statement, here, today said the commission had set up 16 polling centres with 25 polling stations.

He said the centres would open from 8am but the closing time would vary, depending on their locations, distance and the number of voters.

But he said all casting of votes would end by 5pm.

He said as heavy rain was expected on polling day, voters were advised to plan when they would cast their votes and not to do so at the last minute.

“For voters voting at those stations which will close much earlier, we advise them to come early.

“Those at stations which close at 5pm, we urge them to plan their arrival so as not to crowd these stations,” he said.

Mohd Hashim said voters wanting to know their polling stations could log onto the SPR website at www.spr.gov.my to check and verify.

“They can also make use of the SMS to check by typing SPR(space)SEMAK(space) identity card number and then send to 15888.

“They can also call the SPR (EC) office at 082-254867 or our Putrajaya main office at 03-88927018. Alternatively, they can check at any SPR hut near the station on polling day,” he said.

Mohd Hashim again reminded all political parties not to set up their huts near the stations purportedly to help voters, saying this was an offence under Sub-Section 26A(1) of the General Election Offences Act 1954.

He said the campaigning period which began on Feb 4 would end at midnight on Feb 17 (Friday).

Meanwhile, he said the casting of votes would be from 8am to noon at Sekolah  Kebangsaan (SK) Telok Melano, SJK Chung Hua Sarayan Selarat, SK Stoh and Kg Rambungan community hall.

For those voting at the Kg Sungai Belian community hall, SK Siar Campuran Kg Bajo, Lundu, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lundu and SK Kg Sempadi, they can cast their votes from 8am to 1pm.

Voting at SJK Chung Hua Sematan is from 8am to 3pm, while at SK Pueh, SK Kg Sebat, SK Lebai Mentali Kg Sekambal and SK Temelan/Stunggang, it is from 8am to 4pm.

At SK Stunggang Melayu Lundu, SJK Chung Hua Lundu and SK Bumiputera Lundu, voting is between 8am and 5pm.
