BUKIT MERTAJAM, Jan 1 – The free hair cut service provided by the Bukit Mertajam UMNO division was a big hit with residents here today.
The annual programme which was started in 2010, is aimed at helping underprivileged families with kindergarten and primary school going children.
“The free hair cuts are mainly for needy children from kindergarten to Primary Six levels, but we also include secondary students,” said Bukit Mertajam UMNO deputy chief Ramlan Ishak.
“The programme gets a very encouraging response, especially from children, who are willing to wait for their turn. Every year almost 200 pupils receive this free service,” he told reporters when met at Sekolah Kebangsaan Machang Bubok II, here today.
Ramlan added that 14 barbers, comprising 12 from Giat Mara and two from the area, would be providing the hair cuts from 9 am to 4 pm today.
