UMNO, that was formed 65 years ago in the year 1946 have had been supporting and actively been involved in the regional and international bodies and have rendered its support and helping hands towards the betterment of mankind and to make sure that this world is ever peaceful to all of us continuously.

UMNO had played a very active role in ICAPP whereby we have had supported all the resolutions and programmes that were organized by this body in the field of politics, economics, and social towards regional stability, peace and harmony and we can assure you that UMNO will always upkeep its promises made during the ICAPP meetings and conferences and the continuity of our support will remain forever.

We do pray that ICAPP will continue with its agenda in organizing programmes for the betterment of Asian. I too would like to thank all the opposition parties that have set aside their political agenda today to come forward to support the struggle of ICAPP which will benefit all of us.

I was told that there will be three preliminary sessions during this Conference which will be participated by our outstanding, highly qualified, learned, experienced and wise speakers.

All the speakers must speak without fear and favour and the participants might also be fully committed and come up with constructive ideas and questions as to make this Conference more lively and successful.

Since its formation in the year 1980, ICAPP had been very successful in discussing important issues that have had confronted the Asian region and the universe. This year’s topic pertaining to natural disaster and environmental protection is very timely for most of the members of the ICAPP have had experienced of natural disaster in one way or another and they are very much worried about their countries’ environmental condition.

I do hope that all the participants will discuss in depth the impact of the natural disasters and environmental deterioration and would come up with some measures to overcome it and to minimize the impacts, the ability to control the damages incurred and also on how could we in a team spirit work together hand in hand to help one another to overcome these common phenomena.

Natural disasters like Tsunamis, massive floods, earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, avalanches, tornadoes, sink holes, land and mud slides, volcano eruptions, forest fires, are the common talk of the day.

Relief programmes and humanitarian aids are very essential in helping the victims and the unfortunates that suffers during natural catastrophes. We must put our political agenda aside and both the ruling parties and the oppositions should team up to help in the interest of our nations and region.

God had created human beings to help and assist one another. As caretakers and the guardian of our mother earth we should be very responsible in all our moves and undertakings as not to incur any damages and sufferings to our people and environment.

Malaysians, being God-fearing and peace-loving people are very humble and ever obliging to help fellow mankind in difficulties and sufferings. We Malaysians, must always thank God for saving us from most of the natural disasters. In return, we do feel that it is our commitment and obligation to help our brothers and sisters in this region particularly, and all over the world generally to help those who are ridden with sorrows and sufferings as the result of natural disasters.

As we know, natural disasters have caused lives of thousands of people, totally destructed the infrastructures, damaged properties, polluted our rivers, seas, and environment and make countries that are already poor much poorer, and in certain circumstances had badly devastated cities, towns, and agricultural lands are beyond to be redeveloped and recultivated.

Malaysia as a member of ICAPP is ever willing to contribute any form of assistance be it financial, material, or in any form of logistic support to anyone in need. Our volunteers have done tremendous job in many countries in helping the natural disasters victims and at times they have even put their own lives at risk. I too, would like to thank our volunteers for doing this tremendous job and hope that they will continue with their missions.

We will always offer our fullest support to the ICAPP agendas and struggles and we do pray that ICAPP will be able to achieve its mission and the organization will always think big and grow bigger, hopefully.

I do hope that all of the participants will play an active role and contribute to their utmost capability in making this Conference a very successful and memorable one.

Please do visit all our booths that exhibit the impact of natural disasters and environmental protection next to our Conference Hall.

Enjoy your stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
