NATURAL DISASTERS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Since its formation in the year 1980, ICAPP had been very successful in discussing important issues that have had confronted the Asian region and the universe. This year’s topic pertaining to natural disaster and environmental protection is very timely for most of the members of the ICAPP have had experienced of natural disaster in one way or another and they are very much worried about their countries’ environmental condition.
I do hope that all the participants will discuss in depth the impact of the natural disasters and environmental deterioration and would come up with some measures to overcome it and to minimize the impacts, the ability to control the damages incurred and also on how could we in a team spirit work together hand in hand to help one another to overcome these common phenomena.
FORMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS
Natural disasters like Tsunamis, massive floods, earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, avalanches, tornadoes, sink holes, land and mud slides, volcano eruptions, forest fires, are the common talk of the day.
Relief programmes and humanitarian aids are very essential in helping the victims and the unfortunates that suffers during natural catastrophes. We must put our political agenda aside and both the ruling parties and the oppositions should team up to help in the interest of our nations and region.
THE GUARDIAN OF EARTH
God had created human beings to help and assist one another. As caretakers and the guardian of our mother earth we should be very responsible in all our moves and undertakings as not to incur any damages and sufferings to our people and environment.
GOD-FEARING AND PEACE-LOVING PEOPLE
Malaysians, being God-fearing and peace-loving people are very humble and ever obliging to help fellow mankind in difficulties and sufferings. We Malaysians, must always thank God for saving us from most of the natural disasters. In return, we do feel that it is our commitment and obligation to help our brothers and sisters in this region particularly, and all over the world generally to help those who are ridden with sorrows and sufferings as the result of natural disasters.
As we know, natural disasters have caused lives of thousands of people, totally destructed the infrastructures, damaged properties, polluted our rivers, seas, and environment and make countries that are already poor much poorer, and in certain circumstances had badly devastated cities, towns, and agricultural lands are beyond to be redeveloped and recultivated.
CONTRIBUTIONS OF MALAYSIA
Malaysia as a member of ICAPP is ever willing to contribute any form of assistance be it financial, material, or in any form of logistic support to anyone in need. Our volunteers have done tremendous job in many countries in helping the natural disasters victims and at times they have even put their own lives at risk. I too, would like to thank our volunteers for doing this tremendous job and hope that they will continue with their missions.
We will always offer our fullest support to the ICAPP agendas and struggles and we do pray that ICAPP will be able to achieve its mission and the organization will always think big and grow bigger, hopefully.
